Good morning,
in October we are planning 12 days walk in Lycian Way (10th: start in Fethiye - 22nd: finish in Antalya, from where we have our flight back), we have the book of Kate but we haven't read it yet and we have just discovered this forum :)
I know that we have still 3 months to go, but I won't have a lot of spare time this summer to prepare everything, that's why I am writing you with that bunch of questions:
- since we need a small stove, what kind of gas cartridges we can buy in Dalaman or Fethiye: the blue campingas piercable or another type with a screw valve, is it possible to buy them on Sunday (the day we start our walk)?
- since we have only(?) 12 days, could you have any ideas what part of LW we should choose... I promise I will read all the posts on the forum, but if anybody wants to save it to me, I will be delighted :) We would love to avoid any parts of LW where you are supposed to walk on asfalt roads...
- what about the weather in October, will it be still warm during the night?
Thank you very much, any responses are welcomed.
Z & R

We did the whole walk mid may. We did not carry camping gear, so i cannot answer your question about gas canisters...however there is alot of info on this web site about them.
We chose to stay with Turkish families and in pensions on the way.
There were not too many places to camp comfortably, as it is so rocky....but some people did.
There are NO tar sealed, ashfelt roads on the track.
Start at Fethya and walk through to Kalkan....pretty spot, then there is a loop out of Kalkan to patara, also a cute place to stay.....ruins etc. Then head through to Kas and onto Myra, great ruins there, town of Demre not very nice though.
i havent got my book with me, so cannot actually remember how far we got in 14 days.....but the whole walk took us 20. We were faster than most other walkers, but it was not too hard.
The track needs remarking in many places....think about taking a GPS....otherwise be prepared to look for the track carefully and at times its VERY frustrating....but we did it without a GPS.
Hope this helps/

Hello, we also walked in May but only for 4 days, Demre to Finike. Do you need a cooker? We used wood (there is plenty). We needed to carry plenty of water. There is sometimes a bucket to draw water from a well but not always - take 5 meters of strong string/rope in case. There were some areas of asphalt, even on our short stretch. Apparently the locals can hire a bulldozer for 50 Euros per day, so they can afford to make a road wherever they need, often destroying the track.
When you are on the coast, you will be able to arrange boat trips along the coast to avoid some parts. Ucagiz and Simena are worth a visit. The buses are excellent and the drivers will drop you wherever you want, if you ask.
Best wishes, Charlie.
