Planning on hiking the route in late March and first half of April.
Would this be a good time? How much rain can I expect in these months.

Hello BJ,

You are picking one of Kate's most recommended times of year. I have been on the route in March and can testify to the beautiful weather. Not too hot but very pleasant (March, 2004). Wildflowers are in bloom and shepherds/farmers are returning to the mountains. By mid-March there was still a lot of snow on the later parts of the route (closer to Antalya). If you get to those areas by mid April you should have most all the route clear. Snow will linger on Mt Olympos, it is over 2000 meters after all. There are lower routes available if too much snow persists.

By summer the mountains may be cool, but the coastal areas could be scorching.

Average precipitation:

March 3.8 inches / 9.6 centimeters
April 1.7 inches / 4.3 centimeters

Of course, your experience may vary

Thanks for the reply. Glad to hear you find March/April a good time to hike. I was a bit worried I had chosen the wettest months.

Hi and don't let Joel mislead you. Don't expect guaranteed good weather - global warming is messing the climate up so much that we can't really predict what the weather will be like at any given time. For example, we have had almost no rain in November, December and January up until yesterday, when at last it started to rain. These months are usually the wettest in the year.

But March-April will be comfortably warm, although you may have some rain.

And Joel - how are you and what's your latest e-mail address - everyone thinks you're dead or something!!?

Hi kateclow,

I am interested in walking the St Paul Trail in late February and Early March, maybe mid March from Perge to Yalvac.
Do you think there will be need for snow equippment like crampons and ice axe?
I read that it goes up to 2200 meters and alternatively you can climb two 2800 meters high peak. Do one need any special climbing gear for that? In the mentioned period?
I am waiting for your answer or anyone's answer who can reply.

Best regards,
Miklos Negyesi
(Budapest, HUngary)

Hello Everyone. I am planning to walk the Lycian Way from the middle of February 2010. Any advice on the present weather conditions? Do I need to bring winter gear for the walk? Snow and ice traction? (Probably just a pair of Kahtoola Microspikes if the snow is not deep.)

Hi, I do not hike the way actually but you'll have snow mid of february. Advice could be to get 4 or even 6 points crampons instead of Microspikes. 300 gramms both.
