Susan Wirth is German-born, grew up in southern Africa and presently lives on the East Coast of the United States. She is an enthusiastic long-distance horseback rider and has covered many miles in far-flung places, from the Ethiopian highlands to the Thar Desert in Rajasthan. Riding through northwest Anatolia has been one of her most satisfying and exhilarating experiences, mostly due to the wonderful people encountered along the way. She has recently led a group on an expedition pioneering a connection between the St Paul Trail, the Phrygian Way and the Evliya Çelebi Way. Susan is the US photo editor for Der Spiegel, the German news magazine and contributed photos to the Evliya Çelebi book.
